Sustainable Living

PROJECT 1

Sustainable System in a city

This is a Group assignment consist of 4 people, Benjamin, Christopher, Ying Ren & I myself. We were required to pick 2 similar but different capitals to compare their infrastructures in terms of their sustainability and local context. In the end, we decide to compare Phnom Penh of Cambodia and Berlin of Germany, We studied their characteristics, economic, social and environmental aspects of making sustainable decision and choices. Then, our task were divided into 4 infrastructures and 3 phases: RED, GREEN, BLUE and GREY. Each of us have to come up with solutions for Phase 3 to improve Phase 1 with Phase 2.

PROJECT 2

Experiencing Place - 'Genius Loci’

Society, culture, history, memory and the landscape of a particular place echoes the meaning of that ‘place’, or its ‘genius loci’. These qualities will inform the architectural concept and generators for Project 2. In Project 2, the design brief calls for an architectural response toward the sense of place with a strong engagement and relationship to the site and programmatic requirements. The first assignment for Project 2 requires an analysis of the site context as a starting point. It is a fundamental need for any design project as it will suggest a series of parameters to suggest architectural solution, one that will be appropriate to the place and its meaning, and contributes to its context. The site needs to be understood, in both intuitive and personal ways, as well as quantitative and measured means. Techniques to record and understand the site are varied, from physical surveys to qualitative aspects of experience and personal interpretation of the place.

REFLECTIVE REPORT

REFLECTION

In Studio 3 I have encountered more challenges than ever compare to last semesters. The semester we have entered the digital world and were introduce to various software to build and produce 3D models and drawings. Learning a completely new software in a short time period have been a setback to me when trying to design for my studio projects. Since my knowledge is limited at the moment, I felt that the project could be done better. However, with practice I am very sure Revit will become a great convenience to me in the future.
