AD3

Here is my AD3 online class journey during the pandemic with my class and Ms Raihana. In studio 3, our study focus more on spatial poetics.

Architectural Design Studio III

PROJECT 1

Precedent Studies & Spatial Translation

In project 1, we formed a group of 3 and had to pick 2 precedent studies to study their modifying elements. My group choose  St Mary's Cathedral by Kenzo Tange and Aranya Art center by Neri&Hu. From an audio we had to come up with an interpretation and form a narrative together with the precedents studies. From our narrative we manage to design a structure with sensory and poetic experiences can Tianhu Pavillion. This semester we are able to explore software such as sketchup and revit to produce the project digitally. The 3D model is then rendered with Lumion software, it is able to create a realistic look to the model.

PROJECT 2A

Experiencing Place - 'Genius Loci’

Society, culture, history, memory and the landscape of a particular place echoes the meaning of that ‘place’, or its ‘genius loci’. These qualities will inform the architectural concept and generators for Project 2. In Project 2, the design brief calls for an architectural response toward the sense of place with a strong engagement and relationship to the site and programmatic requirements. The first assignment for Project 2 requires an analysis of the site context as a starting point. It is a fundamental need for any design project as it will suggest a series of parameters to suggest architectural solution, one that will be appropriate to the place and its meaning, and contributes to its context. The site needs to be understood, in both intuitive and personal ways, as well as quantitative and measured means. Techniques to record and understand the site are varied, from physical surveys to qualitative aspects of experience and personal interpretation of the place.

PROJECT 3

Memory Repository

From our concept development we are to finalize our design for our memory repository in Machap Baru. The perspectives are rendered to show materiality, site context and lighting.

REFLECTION

In Studio 3 I have encountered more challenges than ever compare to last semesters. The semester we have entered the digital world and were introduce to various software to build and produce 3D models and drawings. Learning a completely new software in a short time period have been a setback to me when trying to design for my studio projects. Since my knowledge is limited at the moment, I felt that the project could be done better. However, with practice I am very sure Revit will become a great convenience to me in the future.
