BCM
Building Construction and Materials
Here is my BCM online class journey during the pandemic with my groupmates and Mr Azim. In this module we have to learn all kinds of Construction details and Materiality from the structure of a house to the components such as staircase, windows an doors. We studied about the constructions process of a small/medium scale house from it preliminary process to its foundation process and superstructure process.
PROJECT 1
Famous Architect
For our First assignment in bcm, We are required to each choose one well known architect and review one of the buildings they designed. I chose a Japanese architect known as Kenzo Tange and his most popular work, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial museum. From his building I have to observe and analyze the structural and architectural materials he used to build the building and conclude them in 2 A3 boards.
PROJECT 2
Construction detailing of Building Element
This group project requires us to gather 4 Architecture and 3 Interior students. I select a 2 Storey terrace house for my friends and we had to produce all the construction detail drawings through all the process and orthographic drawings. From the house we referenced, we were told to building with timber. This assignment helped us understand more on timber frame work structure and the applications of the building elements. We had to redraw the house using timber with scale manually.
REFLECTION
This subject had been quite hectic and I find it quite heavy as there all so many details and names to remember. There were also many tutorial tasks to help us understand more by drawing the details ourselves. Through the process, we had to go through so many drawings and had groupmates look to me for answers about the details constantly. Because of the constant practice and a great tutor from home, I managed to cope with the subjects and even memorize the names naturally. Also, I find it very hard to coordinate in a group assignment online based.
